"Your troops are stationed in Army Camps. Build more camps and upgrade them to muster a powerful army."
Army Camp is where the army you have already trained is located while waiting to be used on attacks. The camps house only troops, not spells, Heroes and Siege Machines.

Upgrading your Army Camps provide more space to your troops, therefore increasing the army capacity.
During the upgrade the Army Camp continues to work and doesn't affect your army capacity.
Army Camp has a high priority on upgrades. Increasing your army capacity is very important and improves your attack quality, so it is recommended to always upgrade the camps when possible.
The space calculation is based on troop "housing space". Each troop has a specific number.
Archers and Barbarians use 1 housing space, but Golem uses 30. Therefore if you have an army capacity of 120 housing spaces you can hold 120 Archers but only 4 Golems.
Fully upgraded Army Camps can provide 280 housing spaces. With additional 40 from the Clan Castle, the maximum army capacity of the game is 320 housing spaces.
Troops can be dismissed from Army Camps, but no resource will be refunded.
The troops on your Army Camps do not defend your village, differently from the Clan Castle troops.
Even tough the building area is 5x5, the building itself is 3x3. Therefore enemy melee troops must walk inside the camp to destroy the building. Valkyries, for example, must go inside the camp to hit the building, disabling her ability to hit multiple buildings at the same.
There is no reason to protect army camps. They have very low health, don't defend your village and use a large area. Surrounding all 4 Army Camps with walls is considered a waste of walls, so it's ok to keep them outside the walls.
