"Electrocute your enemies with bolts of lightning! Cast this spell at the enemy village to damage buildings and units inside a small area."
This spell was introduced on the September 2012 update with the Spell Factory itself, so it's one of the three original Spells, among with the Healing and Rage spells.

The Lightning Spell drops 6 lightning bolts from the sky.
The lightning will randomly fall on a 3.5 tile radius from the point you chose.
You must always aim this spell accurately. The bolts are random, so the only spot that will receive full damage is the exact tile that you have dropped the spell.
This change was done to prevent an extremely annoying "lazy farm" where the attack consisted only in dropping Lightning Spells to steal resources.
The Electro Dragon has a unique ability; he drops some lightning bolts upon death. Although they are similar to the Lightning Spell, they affect all buildings without restrictions, including storages.
This spell makes a fixed amount of damage to a specific chosen area in the village. Stacking multiple Lightning Spells will increase the amount of damage.
So stacking is not only possible but also recommended to take down important defenses before the attack. This is the most common use.
This spell will always drop 6 lightning bolts, regardless of its level.
Upgrading this spell will only increase the amount of damage each bolt will make, and consequently the total amount of damage.
This is spell is commonly used to destroy important defenses before the actual attack.
The most common defense to be destroyed are Air Defenses to prepare the village for an Air Attack. Usually, 2 Lightning Spells are enough to take one down.
Remember that only the exact tile you select will receive the total amount of damage, so aim properly, especially if you are staking Lightning Spells.
It is also common to mix this spell with the Earthquake Spell, creating the popular "ZapQuake".
Even though it is possible to kill Clan Castle troops with this spell, it is overkill and considered a waste of spell. After the introduction of the Poison Spell back in 2015, you should use that spell if you want some help dealing with Clan Castle troops.
