Air Defenses are a single-target and extremely powerful defensive building capable of targeting only air units.
Unlocked on Town Hall 4, it is one of the original defenses of the game, introduced in 2012.
Air Defense is the main defensive building to protect your base against air units.
Making single-damage, it can target and attack only a single air unit at a time, but the damage is massive.
Air Defenses have a range of 10 tiles, being capable of targeting air units outside the walls while being well protected inside.
Upgrading the Air Defenses increases its damage and hit points.
It also features a very unique visual on each level so you can easily figure it out the level before deploying your air troops.
Air Defenses are the primary target of Lava Hounds so they will always skip all other buildings of fly directly towards these defenses. Since Lava Hounds have a massive amount of hit points, they are fairly effective to neutralize the Air Defense for a few seconds while the other troops (usually Ballons or Dragons) destroy the village.
Capable of targeting only a single unit at a time, the Air Defense can easily be neutralized by small and weak, but numerous, troops. Bat Spell, Lava Pups (from Lava Hounds), and even Minions can create a big distraction to this defense. A great tactic to prevent this is to keep Air Defenses close to the Wizard Tower or Air Bombs.
Positioning the Air Defense is extremely important against Queen Walk, when the Archer Queen is deployed with Healers behind. The range of the Air Defense if bigger than the Archer Queen, so always place the Air Defense at least 5 tiles inside the village, so the Air Defense can kill the Healers, but the Archer Queen can't target the Air Defenses. It's important to spread the Air Defenses in your village. Don't keep them close together, or your village will be vulnerable to air attacks on the other side.
Don't position your Air Defenses on the first line of defenses. Balloons have a preferred target of defenses, so keeping Air Defenses on the edge of the village will make them an easy target to them.
