Wizard Towers are a splash-damage defensive building capable of targeting ground and air troops.
Unlocked on Town Hall 5, it's one of the original defenses of the game, introduced in 2012.
The Wizard Tower is a splash-damage defense capable of targeting ground and air enemy troops on a medium radius.
The damage on a single unit might not be very significant, but since it can hit many troops with a single shot, it can be fatal against mass attacks.
This is a powerful defense on lower levels, but as you upgrade your Town Hall to level 10 and higher, better defenses are unlocked and the Wizard Tower slowly loses importance.
This defense is often compared to Mortars because of the splash-damage. However, it has a small radius, does more damage, targets ground and air troops, and doesn't have a dead-zone around.
The Wizard Tower has a radius of 7 tiles. Differently from Mortars, it doesn't have a dead-zone and can target units that very close or even over it.
Upgrading the Wizard Tower improves its damage and hit points.
A good tactic against Mortars and Wizard Towers is to create distractions with stronger troops. These defenses are only powerful against large quantity weak units, so it's a good idea to lure these defenses with Giants, P.E.K.K.As and Golems.
The Wizard Towers are very effective against Balloons, so it's a great idea to keep them behind Air Defenses, a frequent target on-air attacks.
When attacking, make sure you don't group all units too close together, which makes them more vulnerable to Mortars and Wizard Towers.
With a fire-rate of 1.3 seconds, the Wizard Tower is very effective against Wall Breakers, so placing it close to the border of your village might be a good idea. A single shot can kill multiple Wall Breakers; this will force the enemy to deploy extra troops to distract the Wizard Tower or to try a different spot of your village to attack.
