Wizard Explained
The Wizard is a powerful ranged troop. He works similar to the Archer, capable of targeting buildings over walls.
Compared to the Archer, he is more powerful, makes splash damage, has higher hitpoints, but has a slightly smaller range of 3 tiles. He also uses more 4 housing spaces, 4x more than a single Archer.
The Wizard is the first "pro" ground troop available on the game. He is very useful when unlocked on Town Hall 5 and can be used even by high-level players as a support troop.
How to Use Wizards
Wizard, just as Archers, is a support troop. He can take damage from some defenses and survive, but he is better used with Giants of Golems leading the attack. While they take damage from the defenses, the Wizards stay behind attacking for a longer period of time.
On higher levels, he is commonly used to clear buildings outside the walls. If he can be reached by enemy defenses, a couple of Giants can be deployed to protect them. With this tactic, you can clear buildings preparing the funneling without using too many housing spaces.
Wizards are also great against some Clan Castle troops. Capable of dealing splash damage, he can easily kill many Lava Pups from Lava Hounds and Skeletons from Witches with a single shot.
