Attacking: Basics
Hello Clashers! On this tutorial e will go through the all the basics of the battles. It doesn’t matter if you are attacking for trophies or resources, some thing every Clasher should know.
TEST FOR CLAN TROOPS
This is not possible on all villages, but some players place their Clan Castle close to the borders. On those cases, the first unit you put down should be to check if they have Clan Castle troops.
You don't want to be surprised when your plan goes wrong due to a bunch of enemies pouring out, drawing them into the line of fire of the defenses.
Giants, Hog Riders and Balloons are great to take the clan troops out of the Castle in difficult layouts because they target defenses. They will not aim the Mines and Collectors placed around the village, they will go straight ahead to closest defense building making it easier to get in the range of the Clan Castle. Release a single one and see how it goes!
Although this is recommended to all attacks, but some troop formations, such as Hog Riders, are more vulnerable to Clan Troops than others. To specific cases look at the “Attack Compositions†page.
KILLING CLAN CASTLE TROOPS
There are many ways to kill a clan troops. The most common is to kill them with spells.
You can use the Lightning or Poison Spell the kill CC Troops. Great against Archers, Wizards, Barbarians and any other weak/small troop. Don’t forget the Spell housing space here: Lightning and Poison both only use 1, which make this more popular. Another important thing about Poison, if the defense CC troops are not attacking they will run away from the spell area. So luring them to the corner to take them out will not work unless you keep them busy attacking you.
You can also use troops instead of spells. In any case, even if you don’t use specific troop to kill them, it’s always easier to destroy them outside the walls, far away from the enemy defenses.
Different troops have different easy ways to be destroyed. Mass troops with low hit points can be killed by smash damage troops, such as Wizards and Valks.
Big and slow troops, on the other hand, can easily be killed by Witches and small but numerous troops. A single Witch placed in front of a P.E.K.K.A will slowly kill him.
There is a funny way to deal with the Lava Hound: Archer + Healer combo. Take the Lava to the corner and release this combo. The Lava has a very low DPS, so she will not be able to kill the Archer because she will be healed instantly by the Healer. Since the Archer also has a very low DPS, they will stay there during all the attack hitting each other. Using more Archers is safer, but increases the chance of ‘breaking’ the lava. Lava Pups will easily take down the Archers.
Another weakness of the Lava: they don’t attack air troops, so a few minions will be enough to break the Lava.
If you lure Balloons to the corner, don’t forget they make damage when destroyed, so be careful using the Queen to take them out.
FIND THE HEROES
If you are a long time Clasher you will remember when the first thing to do on attacks was lure the Heroes to the corner and kill them. Terrible gameplay experience, but now it’s fixed. No need to worry about this anymore because you can’t lure them, but you definitely should consider the best way to attack the village according to their positions.
The most dangerous Hero on defense is the Queen because it can be a bit tricky to kill her. She has a huge DPS and can shoot from far and over walls, making her unreachable for some troops. She is a natural Golem killer. Always pay attention to her position. For these reasons, I usually I like reach her early on the battle to prevent bad surprises.
TEST FOR TRAPS
Some bases have traps placed outside the walls. This is not recommended since it’s too easy to activate them, so you can make some quick tests before the attack.
The most common and annoying trap you can find outside is the Spring Trap. If you are using all Breakers, you can get into trouble. So if you ant you can always take a couple Barbarians to make some tests, not a bad idea.
AIM FOR THE RIGHT ATTACK
Don’t worry about spending too much gold searching for a battle, just keep looking until you find the right one. Look for Inactive Bases (more about it on the Strategy Guide) and definitely look for a battle that you can get the resources. If they are too protected and the defenses are too strong, skip and keep looking.
If it’s really hard to find a good target some users believe that closing the game and reopening to make a new login helps. You can change the game language to make this faster. This is a rumor that has been around for years and technically, according to Supercell, doesn’t change anything because all villages are available to everyone all the time. Even though changing language or reopening the game should not change a thing, some clashers still do this and claim it works! I’m not so sure, but you can give it a try the see the results for yourself.
WHERE SHOULD I ATTACK: STORAGE OR COLLECTORS?
Sometimes all the Gold is on the Storages, sometimes on the Mines. If the village is abandoned, the resources will be on the Collectors, not on the Storages. You can test by deploying a single Archer to attack a Gold Mine and find out how much she will steal with a single shoot.
How do you identify an abandoned village? There are many ways to find out, so for a closer look go to the “Inactive Bases†page and find out how to identify them.
TROPHIES TO FARM
Considering how the loot available is calculated and the penalties (see the “Loot Calculation†tutorial), you can’t get too many or too few Trophies according to you Town Hall, so we suggest keeping the attacks on this range:
- TH 7: 900 1,700
- TH 8: 1,500 2,000
- TH 9: 1,700 3,000
- TH 10: 2,500 4,000
- TH 11+: 3,300 4k+
Remember, the game wants you to battle against opponents with same Town Hall level as you. Forcing to lose too many Trophies might get you on a league without anyone with a great amount of loot available because of the loot penalties.
You should also take in consideration the League Bonus. If you are a high level player, you should really consider farming on higher leagues with a strong army. The bonus is huge, with the right attack you can get up to 800k of Gold on a single attack. Definitely a great idea instead of using cheat troops on lower leagues.
